Zazie Beetz, born 1991, was born in Berlin. Her father is an German cabinet maker, who immigrated in the United States in 1990 after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, and her mother is a South African-American social worker who hails from New York. Jennifer Aniston attended the same high school as Beetz. Beetz was a student at Skidmore College to study French following her graduation from LaGuardia. When she graduated from the college Beetz began to audition immediately and was offered the part as Van on the set of Atlanta. Beetz, born to an African American father and mother who was a German mother born in Berlin and Berlin was raised as a bilingual New Yorker. Zazie has performed in local theaters since she was a child. The actress discovered her passion and began acting in elementary school.
